John James Audubon was America's first known naturalist and ornithologist with a passion for drawing North American birds in their habitat.

The story takes us from Audubon's cave study in the woods of Kentucky, to his keel boat journey down the Mississippi, an assignment as a tutor in Louisiana, and on a chase for flamingoes in the Florida Keys.

His unrelenting passion for drawing birds and writing about them and their habitat, eventually leads him to Europe to publish his big book.

He leaves Lucy and family on a schooner bound for Liverpool, England, and travels to Scotland where he meets his subscribers.

After a long separation from his beloved wife, Lucy, he sends for her to help him complete his life size book in vibrant aquatint colors.

Now an international celebrity, John James and Lucy Bakewell Audubon are invited to the White House to dine with the President to receive an award for the publication of The Birds of North America, and the Audubon’s life dreams are fulfilled.
